The Naming of Bare Bottom Farms

(as told by Dave)

Naming our farm was no small feat.

We mulled over countless ideas, searching for something that truly embodied the essence of our land and our family. Then, one summer afternoon, as our daughter Irish and I were mowing the field, we glanced over at the pond and saw the three boys laughing and splashing—carefree and skinny dipping without a worry in the world.

Irish turned to me (with a big grin) and said, "Bare Bottom Farms"

At that moment, it just clicked.

The name was simple, playful, and perfectly captured the freedom and joy that farm life brings. When we shared it with Mom (Amber), she loved it as much as we did.

Bare Bottom Farms isn’t just a name to us—it’s a celebration of our family, our values, and the unfiltered, joyful spirit of the land we’re so lucky to call home.

The Story of Our Farm:

(as told by Amber)

Q: How did Bare Bottom Farms get started?

A: It all started with a dream—and a lot of prayers. After 21 years of military service, Dave and I wanted something different for our kids. We dreamed of raising them in a way that taught responsibility, faith, and the value of hard work. We prayed for the right place and promised to give it our all, though we had no idea just how much work farming would be!

Q: Why did you choose cows?

A: Honestly, it all started with my butter obsession! I’d always dreamed of owning a Jersey cow to make my own butter. Dave, who had never even touched a cow before, spent six months searching for one. When he finally found a herd, there was a catch—he had to buy three cows instead of just one. We planned to sell two, but somehow all three stayed. Now, three years later, those three cows have grown into a herd of 14, and our farm is thriving.

Q: What does your farm offer?

A: Bare Bottom Farms is all about fresh, local goodness. We’re best known for our raw Jersey milk, but we also offer farm-fresh beef, pork, eggs, chicken, and other locally sourced staples. Members come by during the week, and every Saturday we open to the public. It’s a little piece of farm life we love sharing with our community.

Q: Who helps run the farm?

A: It’s a full family effort!

  • I (Amber) keep the daily operations running smoothly.
  • Dave is our handyman and all around operator.
  • Irish is our livestock manager and animal whisperer.
  • Maggie, our daughter, shares the farm’s story with the world.
  • Kole, our son, is in charge of the chickens.
  • Steele and Theo, our youngest, make sure the eggs are fresh and ready every day.
  • And our oldest David comes into town regularly for more intense farm projects.

Everyone pitches in, and it’s been incredible to see how much the kids have learned and grown through this experience.

Q: What’s the mission behind Bare Bottom Farms?

A: For us, this farm is so much more than a business. It’s about raising our kids with faith, hard work, and a connection to the land. It’s about teaching them to care for something bigger than themselves while sharing the fruits of our labor with our community.

Q: What’s your motto?

A: We live by: Veteran Owned, Family Operated, Kid Approved! It’s who we are and what we stand for.
